Dumfries House

Built between 1754 and 1760 by the Adam brothers for the 5th Earl of Dumfries, with a unique collection of Chippendale furniture, the House has been described as an 18th century time-capsule since the principal rooms and their contents have remained virtually unchanged for 250 years.

Dumfries house is a 10 minute drive from the hotel.

House is closed to general public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week

Knockroon
Knockroon Woodland Walks

Situated on the edge of the Dumfries House Estate, Knockroon is a development neighbourhood designed to reflect the rich architectural tradition of Ayrshire incorporating homes, shops and workplaces for small businesses.

A network of paths allows walking and cycling to Dumfries House, Cumnock and beyond.

Visitor centre is open 7 days 11.00am till 5.00pm

Car Hire Services

The closes car hire is at Prestwick Airport where there are several car hire companies to choose from.

Shooting Breaks

The hotel can arrange for driven bird hunts for grouse, partridge or pheasant depending on the time of year, with additional shooting in the form of pointers, duck flighting, snipe and woodcock and deer stalking.



Below are a list of dates and type of shooting that can be arranged.

Grouse Shooting

The grouse season begins on 12 August.

Partridge Shooting

The partridge season commences on the 1st September.

Pheasant Shooting

The Pheasant season is between mid-October and late January.

Deer Stalking

Deer Stalking is from early April until October.

Golf Breaks

Visit the Lochside House Hotel and have a day of Golf on the New Cumnock Golf Course. Designed by Willie Fernie in 1901, New Cumnock Golf Course is a tested parkland course with views overlooking the loch. Round here your shot making abilities will be tested to the max, although your short game could save you the most.
